'Jambalaya (On The Bayou)' by Hank Williams sat atop the Country singles charts today in 1952. Hank recorded the track at Castle Studio here in Nashville. Chet Atkins provided the lead guitar, Jerry Rivers was on fiddle and Don Helms played steel. The song would remain #1 for 14 weeks. We have lost another legend this morning, Billy Joe Shaver. Born and raised in Texas, Billy Joe set out to become a recording artist and ended up becoming one of the most influential pieces to the outlaw country movement. His songwriting became legendary as artists lined up to record his music. Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Patty Loveless and Elvis Presley are among the many who have done so. He was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and remained writing and recording music until his final day. The Robert's family has a heavy heart after hearing of the passing of Jerry Jeff Walker. One of the true pillars of modern Texas country music, Jerry Jeff hit the mainstream when he penned and recorded 'Mr. Bojangles'. A musical vagabond, Jerry spread his unique style of folk, country-rock and 'cowboy cosmic' music far and wide. Our neighbors @theryman unveiled a new statue of Loretta Lynn along their 'Icon Walk'. The honor comes just as the 60 year anniversary of Loretta's Opry debut was celebrated. Loretta stated, "Many years I've stood on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, and there's no place like it. Now they're unveiling the statue in my honor. It's like I'm going to get to be there for many more years to come." Congratulations on the well deserved tribute. Happy birthday to the 'Queen of Rockabilly', Wanda Jackson. A rockabilly, country and rock and roll trailblazer, Wanda crossed over several genres and made her unique mark in each one. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. Why she isn't in the Country Music Hall of Fame remains a mystery. Let's have a party and wish Wanda a 'Happy birthday'!!
